Evidence suggests that UVB light, like the Solius spectrum, may calm overactive immune responses in the skin, reduce inflammation, and normalize skin cell turnover. By working directly at the skin level, UVB light supports clearer, healthier-looking skin in ways topical and oral treatments alone may not achieve.
Potential benefits
Slows rapid skin cell growth by influencing cellular activity in the epidermis, helping reduce thickened plaques and scaling associated with conditions like psoriasis.
Reduces skin inflammation to ease redness, itching, and discomfort.
Modulates immune activity in the skin, helping calm overactive immune cells involved in chronic skin flare-ups.

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology
This study found that narrowband UVB light therapy reduced the severity score of atopic dermatitis, a common inflammatory skin disease, by at least 50% for all subjects. The study then looked at the mechanisms of action and found that UVB light therapy suppressed inflammatory Th2 and T22 immune cells and normalized expression of skin barrier proteins to reduce skin thickening due to overactive keratinocytes.

Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery
This review provides an summary of the mechanisms thought to be responsible for the therapeutic effects of phototherapy for psoriasis. These mechanisms include through the alteration of the cytokine profile to shift immune response away from inflammatory pathways, through the induction of apoptosis of cells found in psoriasis lesions, and through the promotion of immunosuppression.

Photobiomodulation, Photomedicine, and Laser Surgery
This randomized controlled trial compared narrowband UVB light therapy and red light therapy, each used in combination with 2% erythromycin cream, for the treatment of acne. They found that narrowband UVB therapy demonstrated greater efficacy than red light therapy in reducing acne lesion counts and improving overall acne severity.

Pruritus, severe itching of the skin, is a common, irritating symptom associated with chronic kidney disease. This study compared the use of narrowband UV light therapy to the use of medical moisturizers in hemodialysis patients and found that UVB light therapy was more effective at lowering itch score in this patient population. The UVB treatment group saw a statistically reduction of itch-score of more than half from baseline levels.

Photodermatology, Photoimmunology & Photomedicine
This systematic review article concluded that narrowband phototherapy is effective for the treatment of psoriasis in patients with skin of color. These findings are significant given that evaluation and treatment of dermatological conditions in skin of color is an understudied field. Of the studies evaluated in this review, 70.5% of patients achieved PASI75, a benchmark for successful psoriasis therapy where patients see a 75% reduction in their PASI score, and all studies demonstrated statistically significant PASI improvement after treatment.

Journal of Multidisciplinary Healthcare
This study that investigated the impact of vitamin D supplementation on chronic wound healing found that those in the supplementation group saw quicker average wound healing time than the control group. The supplementation group also saw improvements in wound area reduction rate and wound depth reduction rate over the control group.
